Positive behaviour support: leadership event
On December 2nd 2008 BILD will be hosting the first annual behaviour support
leadership event; with the support of Andy McDonnell we are pleased to announce
that the key note speaker for the day will be David Pitonyak.
An inspiring speaker David is a must see for anyone who works with and or
supports people who exhibit what might be referred to as ‘challenging’ or
‘difficult behaviours.’ David believes that difficult behaviours result from
unmet needs and they (the behaviours) are messages. David truly puts the person
and their experiences at the centre of his philosophy and work. In addition, he
recognises the emotional price that staff can pay in providing person centred
support and offers practical ways to prevent burnout.
This event will be of relevance to a number of professionals working across and
within services that support children, young people and adults. Early booking is
recommended.

Volunteers needed to take part in an international research project
The Hesley Group has been asked by Professor John Matson of Louisiana State University to assist in an international research project aimed at developing new assessment instruments for children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. The aim of this study is to develop reliable and valid questionnaires that will assess symptoms of autism and related disorders, challenging behaviour, and symptoms of other difficulties (such as sadness, worries, nervousness, inattention, hyperactivity) often experienced by children with Autism Spectrum Disorders. This research is important because it will lead to more reliable and efficient assessment instruments so that children with these disorders are more quickly and correctly identified, and then referred to appropriate intervention services.
